John Wayne Day
(November 5, 1969 - February 4, 2007)

On November 5, 1969 a precious gift was delivered to Terry and LaVena Day. John Wayne Day was born in Liberal, KS. He was lovingly welcomed by his sister, Kimberly Lynn and parents. John grew up in Elkhart, Kansas and graduated from the Elkhart High School in 1988. He was involved in basketball, track, football, and numerous other school activities, but his greatest love was baseball, which he played a total of 12 years. He attended Fort Hays State University for 2 years. John moved to Wichita, KS to work and then to Colorado to fulfill a dream of working at a ski resort. Living in Colorado and working at the Winter Park Ski Resort was quite an experience that he never regretted. Deciding to continue his education, John chose Oklahoma State University. He graduated with a degree in Geology. He moved to Edmond, OK and worked for the Oklahoma Water Resources Board for 8 years. For the past 2 years and 4 months he was an Associate Geologist with Chesapeake Energy. His life was filled with a loving family and an abundance of treasured friends. John passed away on Sunday, February 4, 2007 at Edmond, OK. John was preceded in death by his grandfathers, H.L. Day and E.H. Phillips; his sister, Kimberly Lynn Day. Survivors include his parents, Terry Wayne and LaVena Jean Day; grandmothers, Arlene Day of Oklahoma City and Imogene Phillips of Canton, Oklahoma; numerous extended family and many friends. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, February 7, 2007 at Canton Christian Church with Steve Driskill officiating. Interment will follow in Canton Cemetery under the direction of Haigler -Pierce Funeral Home . Memorial donations may be made to the Oklahoma State University Athletic Foundationin memory of John Wayne Day, with the funeral home serving as custodian.
