Delphia Cora Cornwell
(August 16, 1915 - January 08, 2002)
CORNWELL Delphia Cora Cornwell passed away peacefully in her sleep 1/8/02, at her home in OKC. She was born near Canton, Blaine County, OK, to Edgar (Pete) Mayhall and Anna (Annie) Billings May hall on October 16, 1915. She married Elvin (Oney) Cornwell in December, 1944, during WW II, when Oney was in the Seabees division of the military. They lived in Rhode Island where Oney was stationed until he was sent to the Pacific theater of war. At that time, Delphia returned to OK, and worked in the war plant at Tinker, where she was one of the lady riveters about whom "Rosie the Riveter" song was written. When Oney returned from the Pacific, they rented and operated the White Rock Cafe, which was located next to what is now the Spaghetti Warehouse, in OKC, where they both established deep friendships with their regular customers. Oney, having been a cook in the Seabees, was known for his excellent dishes. Delphia had one brother, Elzon Mayhall, deceased, and one sister and brother-in-law, Orpha (Mayhall) and Jack W. Davis. She will be at Barnes and Johnson Funeral Home until Friday evening, when she will be taken to Haigler Funeral Home . Services will be Saturday, 2:00 pm at Canton Christian Church with interment in the Canton Cemetery. Barnes & Johnson F.H. 1820 S. Douglas Blvd Midwest City 733-2991
