ENID, Okla. — Funeral service for Naomi Adams, 94, will be 2 p.m. Friday,
Feb. 15, 2013, at Canton Christian Church, with Steve Driskill officiating.
Burial will be in Canton Cemetery under the direction of Haigler-Pierce
Funeral Home, Canton.
Naomi Josephine (Jones) Adams was born March 17, 1918, to David William and
Ada Annie (Brint) Jones near Caldwell, Kan.
Her father was a farmer near South Haven, Kan., where she started her
schooling.
A short time thereafter, the family sold the farm in Kansas and purchased
one outside of Oakwood, Okla. One of her fondest childhood memories was a
trip the family took by Model T to visit her father’s sister, Nellie, in
Portland, Ore., in 1925. Naomi attended and graduated from Con 6 School.
She married John R. Adams July 20, 1939, in Enid, Okla. They lived in Canton
four years before moving to Seiling, where they farmed for five years. They
bought the Seiling Motel in 1948, and operated it until 1975.
She was active in the Blaine and Dewey County Home Extension, a member of
Eastern Star and a Charter Member of Canton Senior Citizen’s Club.
Naomi died peacefully at the Seiling Nursing Center on Saturday, Feb. 9,
2013.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John; three sisters, Wilma
Threlkeld, Ethel Jones and Mildred Carney; and one brother, James Jones.
Survivors include her son, J.R. Adams of Jan Juc, Australia, and many nieces
and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Canton Senior Citizens Center
or the church of the donor’s choice, with the funeral home serving as
custodian at P.O. Box 36, Canton, OK 73724.
