Canton – The funeral for John Ruben Adams, 82, will be 2 PM today at United Methodist Church with the Rev. Chuck Gilbert officiating. Burial will follow in Canton Cemetery under direction of Haigler Funeral Home.
He was born November 1, 1916, southeast of Seiling to Benjamin Harrison and Bertha Connelly Adams and died Monday, December 21, 1998.
He graduated from Seiling high school. He married Naomi Josephine Jones July 20, 1939, at Enid. They lived in Canton where he managed a gas station and worked at the gypsum plant at Southard. They later moved to Seiling where they farmed for five years before purchasing Seiling Motel in 1948, which they operated until retiring in 1975. After retiring, they moved back to Canton.
He served as mayor of Seiling, was a member and past president of the Seiling Lions Club, served as County Commissioner in Dewey County and was a member of Seiling Masonic Lodge No. 495, in which he was a 32nd degree Mason.
He is survived by his wife, Naomi, of the home; one son, John Adams Jr. of Broomfield, Colorado; and two sisters, Evelyn Reynolds, Birdena Hurt, both of Seiling.
He was preceded in death by two brothers.
Memorials may be made to Canton Senior Center or church of donors choice.
