Carolee "Pewee" Abshire
(March 17, 1922 - March 8, 2014)
Carolee (Pewee) Abshire was born March 17, 1922 to Dr. Frank R. and Carrie M (Hesse) Buchanan. She departed this life on March 8, 2014. She lived 64 years in the Canton Community. Pewee married Lyle Abshire on July 6, 1939. They farmed six miles south and one and one-half miles west of Canton. In the late sixties they moved to Canton. After Lyle's death (February 1, 1984), she moved to Texas to be near her son and daughter. Pewee was coordinator of the Canton Senior Citizen Center for several years. She was a member of the Canton Christian Church, Christian Church Quartet, and Order of the Eastern Star. She was known in the community as Pewee, a nickname her father gave her at an early age. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lyle; son, Billy Frank; sister, Theresa Haigler (wife of Jr. Haigler); brothers, H. Reuel Buchanan and Dr. F.R. (Tony) Buchanan. Survivors include a daughter, Cheryl Harrington and son, Michael. Six grandchildren, Pamela, Jeff, Bill, Kristine, Mischa and Scott. Pewee also had fourteen great grandchildren, Jessica, Carolee Mercedes, Chase, Sarah, Keely, Whitlyn, Elle, John Wade, Chris, Michael, Kaitlyn, Jordana and Zaiden; one great great grandchild, Cash Anthony. The funeral for Pewee will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, March 21, 2014 at the Canton Christian Church with Steve Driskill officiating. Arrangements by Haigler-Pierce Funeral Home, Canton.
