John F. Lorenz

November 9, 1933 ~ August 12, 2007

Wake and rosary services for John F. Lorenz, 73, will be 7:30 PM Wednesday at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Okeene. The funeral will be 10 AM Thursday at the church. The Rev. Michael Nguyen will officiate. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Arrangements are by Lanman Funeral Home Inc., Okeene. Visitation will be 11 AM to 7 PM today, 10 AM to 5 PM Wednesday at the funeral home, and prior to the service Thursday at the church.

He was born November 9, 1933, in Okeene to Fred and Helen Lorenz and died Sunday, August 12, 2007, following a battle with cancer.

He lived all his life on the family farm north of Okeene. He attended Deep Creek school and graduated from Okeene high school in 1951. He learned to farm and raise cattle at an early age. He served in the Army as a military intelligence specialist, stationed in Germany.

Following the service, he married Betty Louise Abbott November 20, 1965. In addition to farming he worked at Adams Manufacturing and Ameri-gas, was a custom wheat harvester in Oklahoma and Kansas and also worked at the lumberyard in Okeene.

In 1975, he opened his own lumberyard, The Canton Lumber Company, in Canton, which he operated for 32 years. He was a member of Canton Chamber of Commerce and Canton Lions Club. He also was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus.

Surviving are his wife, Betty, of the home; two daughters, L. Reneé Friddle of Yukon and Stephanie White of Plano, Texas; and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to Dexeus Oncology or Bass Radiation Oncology.
