Dorothy Jewel (Armstrong) Felder

Dorothy Jewel (Armstrong) Felder
October 2, 1930 ~ July 25, 2024

Jewel Felder, 93, passed away July 25, 2024, in Enid, Oklahoma. She was born Dorothy “Jewel” Armstrong on October 2, 1930 in Billings, Oklahoma to Paul Nathaniel and Theresa Gladys (Barnum) Armstrong. She was the youngest daughter of 8 siblings. Her mother was a school teacher until she married Paul who worked on the Rock Island railroad; which caused the family to move frequently. She attended many different schools graduating from Hennessey High School in 1949.

She treasured Rainbow Girls days with lifelong friends, her children knew as “Aunts” (Eddie Bierig & Barbara Platt).

Jewel was a lifelong Methodist, even wanting to be a missionary before meeting Anthony. She always held strong to faith and family.

She married Anthony John Felder on August 10th, 1949; in Hennessey, OK and began their family near Okeene. Preceded in death by her husband Anthony, son Tony, daughter Jane Nusz, son in law Mike Geers and siblings: Ervin, Erma Davis, Nathan, Eunice Fergason, Hazel McClung, Marion; parents Paul & Gladys (Barnum) Armstrong; and grandparents Erve & Jane (Evans) Armstrong and Edward & Laura (Brown) Barnum. Both Edward and Laura separately made the run of 1889 into Oklahoma Territory.

She was active with the Okeene Rattlesnake hunt as a Jaycee Jayne. Her home was always open and everyone welcome. Jewel’s purse was dumped in favor of a rattlesnake more than once while they were driving.

Jewel was a member of many long-term bridge clubs and had a huge circle of friends. 50 kids could be seen running around outside while they played bridge. The usual bridge players were Norma & Percy Dobrinski, George & Karel Dobrinski, Joann & Morris Miller, Pat & Jerry Leach and many more.

Jewel was never afraid to commit - or to work hard. She was a great cook and showed up, usually with food and a lot of it. Meals were taken to the harvest fields, Brownies, Girl Scouts, 4-H, band, football, basketball, soccer, Methodist and Catholic bake sales and funerals and also Okeene fundraisers. Everything her community, family - grandkids and great grandkids were doing – she was there. Cooking was how she showed her love. She delivered Meals on Wheels to people in Okeene.

Jewel and Anthony loved to travel. And let’s not even get started about how much she loved Las Vegas with friends and grandchildren, teaching them to play the games properly.

She is survived by:

Daughters: Gladys “Beth” (Henry) Weber of Victoria, TX; Joan Geers of Yukon, OK; Laura “Ruth” (Gary) Boeckman of Enid, OK, and Barbara (Dick) Creps of Okeene, OK and daughter in law, Alice Felder of Okeene.
