AMES — Bonnie Belle Bode was born Nov. 26, 1925, at her home north of Watonga, Okla., to Ernest Leroy and Edith Granetta Gorby Edsall and passed away Saturday, Aug. 29, 2009, at  St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center in Enid, Okla., at the age of 83.
 
She was a resident of the Ames community since 1953, where she was a homemaker. She was still active at her home, at her church and was still in the farming business and had a herd of cattle.
 
Bonnie attended grade school near Watonga, where she rode a horse to school. She graduated from Watonga High School in 1944, attended Southwestern College, majoring in accounting. She also played basketball on the college team. Before Bonnie married, she worked for E. Blumhagen Attorney-at-Law in Watonga, Okla.
 
Bonnie married Walter A. Bode Oct. 8, 1949, at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Okeene. To this union were born four sons and four daughters: Teresa and son-in-law Gene Weber of Hennessey and their children, Heather, Heath, Corbin and Jacob; Sandy and  son-in-law Curtis Turner of Hennessey and their children, Tracy, Travis and Tyler; Walter “Sunny” and daughter-in-law Rita Bode of Ames and their children, Summer and Brock; Roxann and son-in-law Doyle Jones of Hennessey and their children, Tabitha and Amber; William “Bill” and daughter-in-law Tina Bode of Ames and their children, Ashle and Mason; Charles “Chuck” Bode and Dena of Ames and their children, Lynsie Strait, Blade, Cherokee and Baylin Bode; Patricia and son-in-law Rusty Willoughby of Alexandria, Tenn., and their children, Dustin, Jessica and David; and Scott Bode of Ames. Also 10 great-grandchildren.
 
After raising her family, Bonnie worked for Krause Tax Accounting in Okeene in the accounting department until her retirement.
 
Bonnie is survived by her children; two brothers, Earl “Chub” Edsall and Earnest “Bud” Edsall, both of Watonga,  Okla.; three sisters, Patsy McDowell of Okla-homa City, Ladonna Bond and Greta Wright of Watonga.
 
She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter, on Dec. 7, 1995, and two sisters, Nona Mae Brandt and Elmera Scheffler.
 
Rosary for Bonnie will be 7 p.m. today, Sept. 1, 2009, at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Okeene. Mass of Christian burial will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 2, 2009, at the church with Father Prabhakar Kalivela as Celebrant. Burial will follow in Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Wilkinson Mortuary of Okeene is in charge of arrangements.
 
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made through the funeral home to St. Anthony’s Catholic Church or the Altar Society. Visitation will be 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. today at the funeral home.
