She was born November 28, 1944, in Sayre, OK, to her parents James and Eller (Patterson) Simmons. Hazel married Kenneth Gipson March 17, 1963, in Erick, OK. She and Kenneth resided in Amarillo, TX for over 40 years while returning to Texola for the last 12 years. Hazel spent her working years as a secretary for the public school systems. She enjoyed cooking, sewing and crafting. She also enjoyed camping and fishing. Her greatest love was for her family. Hazel’s grandchildren were very dear and precious to her heart. Anyone that knew her realized she had a true servant’s heart.
Surviving family of Hazel include her husband of 58 years: Kenneth
Gipson of the home; 1 daughter: Tina Weatherbee of Amarillo, TX, 1
son: Kip Gipson of Norman, OK, 1 sister: Mary Cherry of Topeka,
KS, 4 brothers: Wayne Simmons of Amarillo, TX, Jimmy Simmons of
Memphis, TN, Jerry Simmons of Amarillo, TX, Bobby Simmons of
Amarillo, TX, 6 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren as well as a
host of other relatives and friends.
Hazel is preceded in death by her parents, 1 son: Kenny Gipson, 3
sisters and 4 brothers.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM, Saturday, June 26, 2021, at Texola Baptist Church with Pastor Charlie Floyd officiating.
Interment will follow at Texola Cemetery.
Visitation will be held at the church Saturday morning before service for all who wish to attend. Online guestbook and condolences are available at www.whineryfs.com Services are under the direction of Rose Chapel, Sayre.
