She passed away January 11, 2018, in Elk City, Oklahoma, at the age of 16 years, 8 months and 1 day.
Devyn was raised in Willow, OK, close to her grandparents’ farm and moved to Elk City with her family in 2012. She was a junior at Merritt School. Devyn attended Merritt since Pre-Kindergarten, but like all teachers’ kids, she was raised in the elementary building and enjoyed Mr. Woodson drawing her pictures and spent many extra hours playing after school and socializing with other teachers. She loved spending time with her papa on the farm. When she was nine years old, she started showing goats and loved the time she and her papa spent feeding and getting the goats ready to show. She loved to eat at the Carter Café with all the farmers and listen to their stories. Before a back injury kept her from it, she loved cheer-leading for Merritt in 7th and 8th grades. She also loved basketball and softball and being part of a team. She was known for making a crazy game-winning catch during summer league softball then celebrating with her friends and a huge smile that everyone loved. During high school, Devyn continued showing goats and being active in FFA, FCA and Key Club. When her mom and Amanda were gone, she loved being the co-boss of the concession stand with Mrs. Schachle. If you came to the concession stand you could expect some sass from Devyn Hope. Even though she was not able to play basketball anymore, she still made time to braid all the girls’ hair before games and show them love and support. If she wasn’t in the concession or working with her goats, Devyn could be found with Cooper. They weren’t just dating, they were best friends; she loved spending time with him and his family, too. Devyn had a huge heart, and she was a kind friend who never met a stranger. She loved her little cousins and the many kids in the community she babysat for. Those who knew Devyn never doubted how much she loved them as she was always heard saying ‘love you’ as she left.
She is preceded in death by her great grandparents and two great uncles, Danny Cornelius and Billy Dale Trissell, and her great-great aunt Murl Wootton, who she was especially close to.
She is survived by her parents, Christy and Charlie Pollard of Elk City, OK; a brother, Dylan Pollard and wife Savannah of Mangum, OK; 2 sisters, Destry Pollard and Dayli Pollard of Elk City, OK; her paternal grandmother, Donna Pollard of Ada, OK; her maternal grandparents, Dale and Janette Cornelius of Willow, OK; her boyfriend, Cooper Taylor; 2 uncles, Jonathan Cornelius and wife Lesley and their son, James Dale of Willow, OK, and Clayton Pollard of Ada, OK; her aunts, Kimberly Leegard and husband Jon of Pauls Valley, OK, and their daughter Mariah, and Charlene Kimmel and husband Randy and their children, Ethen and Jalen of Olathe, KS; her great aunts, Carol Trissell of St. Louis, MO, Margaret Trissell of Portland, OR, and Sharon Harbeson of Willow, OK; the Davis Family of Willow, OK who raised Charlie, and a host of other relatives and friends.
