Icie Lavente Taylor, daughter of John William Snell and Minnie Belle Coen Snell, was born on February 27, 1907 at Grow, northwest of Leedey. She died Wednesday morning October 20, 1999 at the Leedey Nursing Center, at the age of 92.
Icie spent her early life in the Shirley community, where she attended Shirley and Liberty Center Schools. At the age of 18 Icie accepted Christ as her Saviour and was baptized in the Harrel Ranch pond.
On August 8, 1924, she was united in marriage to Frank Griffin Taylor at Cheyenne. To this union two daughters were born, Gertrude Alene and Angela Mae. After their marriage, Frank and Icie lived on a farm northwest of Leedey. In 1954, Icie moved to Panhandle, Texas, where she lived until 1956, at which time she moved to Roswell, New Mexico. This remained her home until 1973, when she returned to Leedey.
Mrs. Taylor was a member of the Leedey First Baptist Church.
Icie was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Ester Dawson and Mary Swank; two brothers, Bill and Jess Snell.
Survivors include: two daughters, Gertrude Alene Nixon of Leedey, and Angela Mae Humble of Roswell, New Mexico, two step-daughters, Georgetta Meredith and Velma Kuepper, 11 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
