Wesley Yeakley Smith Submitted by: Wanda Purcell
Wesley Yeakley Smith, son of R.D. and Lucy Smith, was born October 6, 1887 in Chico, Texas. He dparted this life January 17, 1950 at Crawford, Oklahoma.
Mr. Smith was converted at the age of 28 years and later united with the Methodist church. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge for more than 30 years. He was a successful farmer and merchant. Mr. Smith came to the delhi community in 1910 from Texas. He has lived in Roger Mills and Beckham counties most of the time except a few years spent in Texas.
On Feburary 8, 1913 Mr. Smith was married to Allie Brown at Delhi, Oklahoma. To this union seven children were born.
Survivors include his wife of Gem City, 3 daughters and 4 sons: Mrs. Veta Fay Platts, Phillips, texas; Mrs. Wanda Brinkley, San Luis Opispo, California; Miss Imogene Smith, Phillips, Texas; Melvin Smith, amarillo, Texas; Cecil Smith, San Luis Opispo, California; R.E. Smith, Phillips, Texas; Jackdene Smith, Phillips, Texas; two children by a former marriage: Everett and Effie smith, Quail, Texas. Two brothers, W.J. Smith, Brady, Texas and L.D. Smith, Jackboro, Texas. One sister, Mrs. Ollie Taylor, Phoenix, Arizona. Eleven grand children and a number of nieces and nephews and a host of friends also survive.
He was preceded in death by his father, mother, 2 sisters and 4 brothers. One brother, R.A. Smith died December 16, 1949.
Burial in the Silent Home Cemetery, Roll, Roger Mills County, Oklahoma.
