Zella May Gamble, 92, cheyenne, was born December 31, 1883 in Sheridan, Ind., and died Thursday, July 10, 1986 at the Cheyenne Convalescent Home folloiwng an extended illness.
When a small child, she moved with her parents, Thomas A. and Cora M. Cox to Tennessee and from there to Grimes, Okla., in 1920. On February 14, 1913 she and Elijah Thomas Gamble were married in Cheyenne. They moved to Rankin in 1925 and in 1938 they moved northwest of Reydon. The last three years of her life were spent in Cheyenne. She had been a member of the First Baptist church of Reydon for a number of years. She was also the last surviving member of the Rankin Community Quilting Club. Mrs Gamble was also an authoress, having written "Thanks Father For This Roof" and book of poetry, "Moments of Rest."
Those who preceded her in death were her parents; her husband in 1972; one daughter, Verna Lee Barbour; one son, Grant; one grandson, Charles King; one sister and two brothers.
Survivors include one daughter, Edith King of Moore; one son, Roy L. Gamble of Ceur d'Alene, Idaho, 11 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; one great great granddaughter; three sissters, Viola Pepass and Willie Bates, both of West Plains, MO; Nellie Jurgensen of Sayre; one brother, Carter Cox of Midwest City and other relatives.
Funeral services were conducted Monday, July 14, 1986 at 1:30 p.m. in the First Baptist Church of Reydon with Ernest Ashcraft officiating. Interment will follow in the Dempsey Cemetery, Roger Mills County, Oklahoma with Rose Chapel Funeral Service of cheyenne in charge of arrangements.
Grandsons served as pallbearers.
