Funeral services for Grace Hall Commons will be conducted Tuesday, March 26, 2002 at 10:30 a.m. from the Martin Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in the Fairlawn Cemetery under the direction of the Martin Funeral Home of Elk City.
Grace Hall Commons was born July 26, 1908 in Merritt, Oklahoma to William and Mary Alexander Hall and passed away March 22, 2002 in Georgetown, Texas at the age of 93. Graace grew up in Elk City, Oklahoma. She was married to Kenneth Commons in 1937 and they moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma and then to Tennessee, Kentucky, Arkansas, Maryland, Nebraska, New Jersey, Michigan and then back to Oklahoma City and Tulsa where Kenneth retired from the F.B.I. They moved to San Angelo, Texas in 1965 where she began her career again as an X-ray technician. Grace worked at Shannon Hospital for 12 years and at Baptist Memorial Hospital for 15 years. She was the subject of an article written about X-ray technicians where it was stated that she was, at that time, the oldest living female X-ray technician. Grace was also very involved with the women of the church at St. Mark's Presbyterian. She was many, many times referred to as being "Amazing Grace." She most certainly lived her life as a shining example for all those around her to follow. Grace will be sorely missed.
She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, two sisters, a baby daughter, Gay Elizabeth, and her loving husband, Kenneth. She is survived by two daughters, Sharon Johnson and her husband Jim of Georgetown, Texas and Mary Schweers and her husband John of Reynoldsburg, Ohio; four grandchildren, Blake Johnson, Carrie Grace Schweers, Matthew Johnson and his wife Dorothy and Christian Schweers and his wife Sandra; seven great grandchildren, Thomas Slaughter, Brandon Schweers, Kristi Schweers, Cyntheia Schweers, Kennedi Schweers, Joseph Johnson and Theodore Johnson and Many nieces, nephews and friends.
