Fred M. Cobb was born July 9, 1919 in Minneola, Kansas to Mable and Dick Cobb. He passed away December 8, 2001 at his home near Roll, Oklahoma at the age of 82 years 4 months and 29 days. He moved with his family to Texola, Oklahoma. They later moved to the Roll area where he continued to make his home. He attended Roll school and later worked until he entered the U.S. Army. He served from January 1940 to July 1945 in the 179th Infantry Regiment, Company F, 45th Infantry Division. Fred saw combat action in North Africia, Sicily, Itlay, and Germany. He was awarded the Purple Heart with an oak leaf cluster. After his discharge, he returned to Roger Mills County and boughrt a farm near Roll. He met and married the love of his life, Avis Jones, at Sayre, Okalhoma on April 27, 1946. He was proud to say he was married 55 years to the love of his life. They have lived east of Roll for 55 years. Fred has always been a good, hard worker with horses, border collies, kids and grandkids. He was an honest hard working man, who was a very respected man making an example for his family to follow.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 brofther and one sister.
He is survived by his wife, Avis, of the home; 2 sons, Gene Cobb of Elk City, OK; Gary Fred Cobb and wife, Cathy of Crawford, OK; 4 grandkids, Kari Cobb Kiefer and husband, Cory of Sherman, Texas, Rhett Cobb of Elk City, OK, Crockett Cobb and Glynn Cobb both of Crawford, Oklahoma, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Services were held Decembver 10, 2 001 at 1:30 p.m. at Cheyenne First Baptist Church, Cheyenne, OK with Andy Taylor, officiating. Interment Silent Home Cemetery, Roll, Roger Mills County, Oklahoma. Whinery Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements.
Casket Bearers were Bob Cogburn, Wendell Keahey, Murray Foster, Terrell Scroggins, Terry Wayne Keahey, Jerry Jones.
