William Jefferson (Jay) Bowers Cheyenne Star Submitted by: Wanda Purcell
William Jefferson (Jay) Bowers of Sayre died Friday December 20, 1963 from a heart attack. Funeral services were held Sunday December 22, 1963 in the Church of Christ in Sayre with Don Hicks minister, officiating.
Born July 26, 1912 at JMobeetie, Texas Mr. Bowers came to Cheyenne in 1916 with his parents. Was married to Mildred Neal on December 6, 1934 at Cheyenne. He had resided in Cheyenne and Sayre since 1916. He operated the Bowers Hatchery since in March 1946 when he was dishcarged from the army. He was a member of the American Legion, the IOOF, the Chamber of Commerce and the Methodist church.
Survivors are his wife of the home; one brother, Grady of Long Beach, California; four sisters, Mrs. Grace Puckett, Mrs. Lavada Dawkins, Mrs. Ova Landtroop of Sayre and Peggy Bowers of Oklahoma City.
Interment was in the Sayre-Doxey cemetery, Sayre, Beckham County, Oklahoma.
Mr. Bowers was a cousin of Mrs. Frank Vincent and a nephew of Frank G. Bowers of Cheyenne.
He was a son of the late T.A. and Laura Bowers.
