Funeral services for Walker Melton Alexander will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday at the First Baptist Church in Elk City with Russell Duck and Arol Steverson officiating. Burial will be in Fairlawn Cemetery, Elk City, Beckham County, Oklahoma under the direction of Peoples Cooperative Funeral Home of Lone Wolf.
Walker Melton Alexander was born November 6, 1922 in Whitesboro, Texas to Guy H. and Maude L. Walker Alexander and died Sunday, February 17, 2002 at Jackson County Memorial Hospital in Altus at the age of 79.
He moved to Oklahoma in 1928, living near Elk City and lived there until he went into the Army in 1942. He attended Merritt Schools from 1930 to 1942, Cameron, Jr. College from 1950 to 1952 and Oklahoma A & M from 1952 to 1954. He married Dorotha Winell Hudler September 11, 1949 in Wheeler, Texas. He later married Ruth B. Henry February 16, 1996 in Elk City. He served his country in the US Army from October 30, 1942 to October 31, 1945. While in the Army he was a Surgical Technician. He also worked for 25 years at the Oklahoma State Reformatory, as a farm superintendent.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Elk City.
He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife; one daughter, Donna Jean and two sisters, Mildred Alexander and Sylvia Newman.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth of the home; three sons, Ronald Wayne Alexander and wife Lynn of Granite, Dennis Alan Alexander and wife Rebecca of Abilene, Texas and Kent Melton Alexander of Granite; five brothers, Raymond Alexander of Clovis, California, James Alexander and wife Pauline of Whitesboro, Texas, Maurice Alexander and wife LaVerne of Elk City, Leroy Alexander and wife Ida of Elk City and Jack Alexander and wife Margaret of Guymon; one grandchild and three great grandchildren.
