R D Hood was born March 20, 1937 in Cheyenne, Oklahoma to Inez Bell and Sam Hood. He passed away after a hard fought battle with ALS on January 29, 2016 at Oklahoma City, Oklahoma at the age of 78 years, 10 months and 9 days.

R D attended school at Hiway and Merritt before moving with his family to Pampa, Texas. He enlisted in the U. S. Navy in 1956 and after his discharge he returned to Pampa and worked for the Pampa School System. He was married to Victoria Clarene Jones at Miami, Oklahoma on March 3, 1961 and began working as a lineman. In 1963 they moved to Oklahoma City and he began his career with OG&E. He started as a lineman and eventually retired as a district superintendent in 1994 after almost 31 years of service. R D was an avid gardener, a jack of all trades and took great pride in caring for his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, M D Hood.

He is survived by his wife, Victoria Clarene, of the home; his children, Randy Hood and wife, Susan, Guthrie, Oklahoma, Shelley Cooksey and husband, Steve, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; 6 grandchildren, Heather Foster & husband, David, Zackery Cooksey & wife, Leslie, Blake Cooksey, Scarlett Hood, Abigael Hood, Wyatt Hood, 2 great grandchildren, Ryan Foster, Brooklyn Foster, 5 brothers and sisters, Maye Barton, Healdton, Oklahoma, Twila Bell, Norman, Oklahoma, Mary Jo Moxley, Leawood, Kansas, Jerry Hood and wife, Phyllis, Pampa, Texas, Wanda Smith, Chickasha, Oklahoma; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Services will be held Monday, February 1, 2016 at 10:30 am at Crestview Baptist Church officiated by Bill Tomlin and assisted by Dr. Terry Rials and Jerry Brewer. Burial will be at Poarch Cemetery at 3:30 pm under the direction of Whinery-Savage Funeral Service. Visitation in Oklahoma City will be at the Crestview Baptist Church on Monday, February 1 from 9 am until service time and a live stream of the service will be available at www.crestviewokc.org and then click on the link to join the service.
