Norman Kaufman was born
South of Olustee, Oklahoma on July 8, 1924 to Della Mae and Agusta A.
Kaufman. He passed away August 9, 2014 at Sayre, Oklahoma at the age of
90 years, 1 month and 1 day.
Norman lived West of Olustee for the first 11 years going to Olustee
school. He then moved to North of Aaron school and went to a two room
school for 4 years. Norman attended Prairie Hill for 2 years and
finished the remaining 2 years graduating from Duke High School in 1943.
Norman drove the school bus his senior year. In 1944 he and his parents moved North of
Blair and had the first farm to be irrigated. A year later he enlisted
in the United States Army where he served from 1945 to 1946. He was
discharged and he returned home to help his family on September 30,
1948. Norman was married to Nell McElwee to whom he had a son and
daughter and remained together for 22 1/2 years. He was later married to
Wilma Mae (VanSchuyver) Kaufman at Altus, Oklahoma on May 12, 1972.
Together they had 3 children. Norman worked for 7up Bottling Co. in
Altus for 9 years before moving to Elk City, Oklahoma where he worked
for Dr. Pepper Bottling Co. for 21 years. Norman retired in 1986 and
enjoyed mowing and other kinds of work around the yard and his home.
He was preceded in death by his parents and wife.
He is survived by his 5 children, Mary E. Jarvis, Noble, OK, Larry
Kaufman, Okarche, OK, LaNell Mobbs and husband, Eddy, Altus, OK, Ken
Head and wife, Linda, Eugene, OR and Carol Miles and friend, L.W.
Plemons, Sayre, OK; 14 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; 1 sister,
Janice Bailey, Altus, OK and a host of other relatives and friends.
