Carolyn Faye Abla

Carolyn Faye Abla was born on March 14,
1943 in Erick, Oklahoma to Dee Elmo (deceased) and Lovelle Abla. She graduated
from Sweetwater High in 1961. After earning a degree in Secretarial Science from
Oklahoma Christian College, she moved to Michigan where she was a member of the
Troy Church of Christ. She was also an instructor and cheerleader sponsor at
Michigan Christian College where her love affair with college basketball began.
She moved back to Oklahoma with her family in 1978. Carolyn valued an honest
days work, her family, and her faith in the Lord. She adored spending time with
her grandson, Wilson, never passed up a chance to go fishing with her daughter,
Casey, and always found a great bargain shopping with her daughter, Stephanie.
She was a devoted Duke University basketball fan and loved March Madness. But
Carolyn's true passion was quilting and her deep desire to help children. She
volunteered at a local daycare center where she read books to the kids. She also
volunteered her time to the U R Special organization. In 2003, Carolyn decided
to combine her love for children and quilting. She began making and donating
small quilts to the local rescue agencies. In less than two years, she had made
85 quilts for the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, 25 for Oklahoma City Fire-Rescue, and
(her proudest) over 125 for the Edmond Police Department. Every one of these
blankets was made with compassionate care and love. She will always be
remembered for putting others first, even during her own times of troubles. The
Lord has mercifully shown her the love and compassion she has always shown to
others and has sought in her own life for many years.
Carolyn is survived by her daughters and their families: Casey Franklin, Glen
Barnett, and their son Wilson Beltz, Stephanie Franklin, Kevin Decker, and their
daughter Elizabeth Decker. Her parents: Carl and Lovelle Hill; Brothers, Norman
and Bobby Abla, Billy and Kervin Hill and their families; Sister, Carlene Hill
and her family, and Uncles, Vernie and Bobby Joe Abla.
She was preceded in death by brother Ivan Hill.
