Velva Criswell was born August 15, 1949 in Sayre,
Oklahoma to Velma and Tipton Scism. She passed away June 26, 2017 at Oklahoma
City, Oklahoma at the age of 67 years, 10 months, and 11 days.
Velva graduated from Sayre High School in 1968. She was married to Bob Criswell
at Dallas, Texas on January 10, 1970 and they lived in Lake Dallas for a short
time before moving to Hot Springs, Arkansas. They later lived in Hurst, Texas
before returning to Beckham County where they owned operated the Country Corners
in the Bulo community for several years. In 1977, they moved to Sayre to make
their home. Velva worked at Sayre Memorial Hospital for a few years and then was
employed at the Doctor's Clinic and Elk City Community Hospital/Great Plains
Regional Medical Center until her retirement in 2011. She also enjoyed helping
her husband with their business, Country At Heart.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Rodney Criswell, and a brother,
Albert Preston Scism.
She is survived by her husband, Bob Criswell, of the home; 2 sons, Bryan
Criswell and wife, Pam, of Elk City, OK, Jim Paul Criswell and fiancé', Michelle
Bryan, of Sayre, OK; 2 grand daughters, Lexus and Aspen Criswell, 2 sisters,
Howardine Martin of Elk City, OK and Elsie Pettit of Elk City, OK; 2 brothers,
Odell Scism of Garland, Texas and Doug Scism of Perkins, OK; and a host of other
relatives, and friends.
