Charles Keith Stone was born March 8, 1932 in Sayre, Oklahoma to Clyde Moore and
Rettie Lou (Ferrell) Stone. He passed away January 22, 2018 at Elk City,
Oklahoma at the age of 85 years, 10 months and 14 days.
Keith grew up on the family farm west of Sayre where he attended school. During
this time he was a part of the 1950 football state championship team. He also
participated in basketball and baseball before graduating in 1951. After
graduation he attended Sayre Junior College for 2 years before moving to Oregon
where he worked in the lumber industry. It was in Oregon that he was drafted
into the United States Army on November 20, 1953. He was stationed in Germany
for one year. During this time he was married on a 3 day pass to Thurma Jean
(Burns) Stone on October 22, 1955. After their marriage Keith returned to Ft.
Riley and soon after Thurma moved up to Junction City, Kansas. Keith was
discharged in 1956 and they moved to Clinton where he attended Southwestern
Oklahoma State University where he received his bachelors degree in education in
1958. After graduation he taught in Shattuck, Cyril and Western Heights and
during the summers he worked on his masters degree at the University of
Oklahoma. He received his masters in 1961 and continued teaching until he began
working for the State Department of Education in 1970. Keith enjoyed the
students and had a passion for education and continued with the State Department
until his retirement in 1990. Upon his retirement Keith enjoyed golfing, having
a score of 80 on his 80th birthday. Keith also enjoyed caring for his parents,
mother-in-law, 2 aunts and an uncle and spending time with his family and
friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents and 2 brothers, Jerry and C.M. Stone, Jr.
He is survived by his wife, Thurma, of the home and a host of nieces, nephews,
in-laws, other relatives and friends.
