Martin-Dugger Funeral Home Elk City
John L. Sprowls, 87, of Bedford, Texas was born on November 13, 1926 in Cheyenne, Oklahoma. He is the son of James "Jim" and Vera Marie (Reed) Sprowls. John passed away on July 21, 2014 at the Legend Skilled Nursing Center in Euless, Texas. He met and married his beloved wife of seventy years, Harriet Lucinda Nutt on September 19, 1943 in Arapaho, Oklahoma.
John served his country in the United States Army during World War II in the Philippines and Japan. He received an honorable discharge on December 8, 1946. He was the District Manager for Bridgestone Tire and Rubber Co. In Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, for over thirty-three years until he retired in 1987.
John was an active member of the Village Christian Church in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma where he served as a Deacon and Elder.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 26, 2014 at the Martin-Dugger Funeral Home Chapel in Elk City, Oklahoma. Pastor Joshua White will officiate. Interment will be at Fairlawn Cemetery in Elk City, Oklahoma. Services are under the direction of Martin-Dugger Funeral Home in Elk City, Oklahoma. Memorials can be made to the Accolade Hospice Foundation or the Wounded Warrior Project in care of Martin-Dugger Funeral Home, 600 West Country Club Blvd., Elk City, OK 73644.
John is survived by his wife, Harriet of the home; three daughters, Cecilia Stanford of Silver City, New Mexico; Phoebe Belteau and husband, Ted of Monument, Colorado and Stephanie Saunders and husband, David of Bedford, Texas; seven grandchildren, Nathan Leland and his wife, Jennifer of Los Angeles, California; Bree Belteau Hobgood and her husband, Joshua of Colorado Springs, Colorado; Lauren Belteau Gerfen and her husband, Jerod of Norman, Oklahoma; Jill Saunders and her husband, Wayne of Burbank, California, Joseph Saunders and his wife, Brandi of Brazoria, Texas; Peter Saunders and his wife, Julie of Euless, Texas and Ginger Saunders Echols and her husband, Brady of Austin, Texas; and seven great grandchildren, Owen, Wyatt and Molly Hobgood both of Colorado Springs, Colorado. Lucas and Hazel Saunders of Brazoria, Texas and Stella and Calder Leland of Los Angeles, California.
He is preceded in death by his parents, James and Vera Sprowls; sister, Jessie Mae Wood and brothers, Kenneth Sprowls, Vance Sprowls and Robert Sprowls. Online condolences can be sent to the family by using the online guest book at www.martin-duggerfuneralhome.com
