Funeral services for Billye Jean Pope McGahey will be conducted Thursday at 10:30 a.m. from the Martin Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Keith Russell officiating. Burial will follow in the Fairlawn Cemetery, Elk City, Oklahoma under the direction of the Martin Funeral Home.

Billye Jean McGahey was born March 3, 1928 in Calrea to William B. and Stella Shelton Pope and died Sunday July 7, 1996 at the age of 68.

She was raised and educated in Durant.

She married O. J. McGahey on December 23, 1954 in Durant. The McGahey family moved to Midland, Texas in 1992 from Elk City.

Billye was active in the Baptist Church.

Survivors include her sons, David McGahey and his wife Jody of Austin, Texas; Jay D. McGahey and his wife Anne of Little Rock, Arkansas; one daughter, Brenda Benally and her husbande Ron of Gallup, New Mexico; five grandchildren, Taylor and Carli McGahey, Melissa Storm, Susan Featherston and Michael McGahey; and one great grandchild, Evalina McGahey; one brother, Troy Pope of Farmington, New Mexico; three sisters, Lenora Harper of Durant; Mildred Cooper of Odessa, Texas; and Juanita Gilbert of Durant; also several nieces, nephews and friends.
