Harlan grew up in Reydon where he attended schools and graduated in 1945. After graduation he enlisted in the United States Army where he served stateside during World War II at Ft. Benning, Georgia as part of the 82nd Airborne. Upon his discharge, Harlan furthered his education at a Southwestern Bible College in Waxahachie, Texas. After graduation he moved to Alaska where he was married to Mary Ola (Nichols) Garretson on November 5, 1951. After their marriage they remained in Alaska until moving to Oklahoma City for a short period and then to Napa, California where they resided. Harlan found employment as an insurance salesman and continued with Prudential Insurance for 30 years. They moved to Paso Robles, California for 20 years before moving to Elk City in the summer of 2017. Harlan enjoyed golfing, building projects and spending time with his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and 6 sisters.
He is survived by his wife, Mary, of the home; 4 children, Dana Allred and husband, Daniel, Pocatello, ID, James Garretson, Elk City, OK, David Garretson and wife, Susan, Paso Robles, CA and Margaret Garretson, Gilroy, CA; 9 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren; 1 sister, Bettie Garretson, Greenville, SC and 1 brother, Dwight Garretson and a host of other relatives and friends.
