Funeral services for Billie Jean "Jeannie" Estes will be conducted 10:30 a.m. Thursday, December 7, 2006 at the First Baptist Church of Elk City with Dr. Russell Duck and Rev. Danny Ringer officiating.
Interment will follow in the Fairlawn Cemetery under the
direction of the Martin Funeral Home of Elk City. The family requests memorials
in Mrs. Estes name made to the American Cancer Society.
Billie Jean Estes was born April 8, 1946 at Elk City to Bill Merritt and Alva
Jean Johnson and passed away Monday, December 4, 2006 at the age of 60 following
a courageous battle with cancer. She graduated from Elk City High School and
then continued her education at Panhandle State University. She was married to
Robert F. "Bob" Estes Jr. on December 26, 1965 at Elk City. They lived in
Colorado, Texas and Georgia before returning to Elk City in 1981 where they have
lived since, Jeannie worked as a Computer Technician for Process Technology, was
a secretary at the First Baptist Church and also owned and operated B. J.'s
imports during her working career. She was an active member of the First Baptist
Church of Elk City where she taught Sunday School, participated in the Adult
Choir, Handbells and the Children's Choir.
She was preceded in death by her father, Bill Merritt.
Survivors include her husband: Bob Estes, of Elk City home, 2 children, Shannon
Welty and her husband Todd, of Leedey, and Sean Estes and his wife, Jennifer, of
Cordell, OK; 7 grandchildren, her mother, Alva Jean Merritt, of Sapulpa, OK 2
sisters, Cheryl Underwood of Sapulpa, OK and Kimberly Russell and her husband,
James, of Oklahoma City, OK and 2 brothers, Kent Merritt and his wife,
Elizabeth, of Sherman Oaks, CA and Brad Merritt of Elk City.
