Floyd R. Davis was born on October 9, 1926 in the Crawford
community
to Josie and Charley Davis and passed away December 19, 1998 in the
Great Plains Regional Medical Center at the age of 72 years, 2 months
and 10 days.
Floyd graduated from Crawford High School. He served his country
during World War II and after returning he married his childhood sweetheart
Wanzell Hardin on December 31, 1947 in Canadian, Texas. They lived in Crawford
until 1958 when they moved to Carter, Oklahoma where they owned Davis Grocery
Store. In 1963 they moved to
Elk City to make their home. Floyd and Wanzell owned and operated
Davis Feed Lot and Locker Plant for a number of years. Floyd was a
carpenter and had built many houses in Beckham and Roger Mills County
including his daughter, Dixie's home in Elk City. Floyd was a past
president of the elk City Round-Up Club. He was also a member of the
Second and Adams Church of Christ.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and 1 brother Ernie.
He is survived by his wife, Wanzell, of the home, 2 daughters and sons-in-law, Denna and Dee Damron, Lufkin, Texas, Dixie and Ray Damron, Elk City, Oklahoma, 1 son and daughter-in-law, Roger and Tommye Davis, Elk City, Oklahoma, 2 brothers, Lavon Davis, Forrest Grove, Oregon, Bill Davis, Ames, Oklahoma 7 grandchildren, Duke Damron and wife, Kim, Jacob Damron, Cody Damron and wife, LaDorshe', Amy Damron, Kyle Damron, Cade Davis, and Will Davis, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Memorial may be made to the Westview Boy's Home.
Services were held Monday, December 21, 1998 at 10:30 a.m. in Whinery-Savage
Chapel, Elk City. Interment Fairlawn Cemetery, Elk City, Oklahoma.
Pallbearers were Will Davis, Cade Davis, Duke Damron, Cody Damron, Kyle
Damron, Jacob Damron.
Honorary Pallbearers, Andy Hall, Willie Lewis, Jerry Cloud, Mike Burgher,
