Phil grew up in California and came to Oklahoma in 1984. He met and was eventually married to JoAnn (Carter) Conway at Retrop, Oklahoma on March 29, 1986. After their marriage they lived in Carter, Oklahoma and moved to Elk City, Oklahoma in the early 90's. Besides being a life long truck driver, Phil briefly worked for the Elk City Schools where he built strong relationships with many of the members of the basketball team. This bond was evident when he had posed a challenge to them and upon them achieving this goal they were allowed to shave his head and beard. Phil was a generous and compassionate man who never met a stranger and cared for his friends, family and adored his grandchildren. He enjoyed fishing, traveling, going to car shows and was an avid University of Oklahoma football fan.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, 6 siblings, Minnie Marie Self, John Franklin Conway, Jr., Evelyn Juanita Beasley, James Carroll Conway, John Harold Conway, and Faye Ann Smith.
He is survived by his daughter, Dr. Barbara Carter, Edmond, OK; 2 sons, Phillip Carter and wife, Michelle, Carter, OK and David Hughes and wife, Mandi, Amarillo, TX; 8 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren; 1 brother, David Conway, Pacifica, CA; 3 sisters, Deenie Lousgalot, Lodi, CA, Marilyn Zanchettini, Gardenville, NV and Shirley Valliett, Clear Lake, CA; 2 daughters Jamie Hall, and Tracey Schwall from a previous marriage and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, other relatives and friends.
