Preston Erman Bailey was born May 15, 1917 in Moorewood, Oklahoma to Mamie and Erman C. Bailey.He passed away June 21, 2003 in the Baptist - St. Anthony Hospice, Amarillo, Texas at the age of 86 years, 1 month and 6 days.
Preston graduated from Hammon High School and was married to Eula Mae Burgess at Hammon, Oklahoma on April 9, 1939.
They lived in the Hammon community where Preston farmed. They moved to Pampa, Texas in 1953 where he worked for the Pampa Police Department until his retirement on October 30, 1983 as a Lieutenant.
Preston and Eula Mae visited Lake City, Colorado many summers since 1969. In May of 2002 they moved the Amarillo, Texas to make their home.
He was a member of the Central Church of Christ where he had served as a deacon and elder.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters.
Services were held Tuesday, June 24, 2003 at 10:30 a.m. at Whinery-Savage Chapel, Elk City, Oklahoma, officiated by Kevin Ballard and Tom Bailey.
Burial was held in the Fairlawn Cemetery under the direction of Rose Chapel Funeral Service, Sayre.
Memorials may be made to Westview Boys Home, Hollis, Oklahoma.
Survivors include his wife, Eula Mae of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Carlyn and Jerry Baker of Amarillo, Texas; and Viva Kay and Gary Coulter of Sayre, Oklahoma; one granddaughter, Vanessa Norman and husband Jeff; two great granddaughters, Brooke and Kathryn Norman; two brothers, Edward Bailey of Lubbock, Texas; and Franklin D. Bailey of Florida; as well as ahost of other relatives and friends.
