He passed away October 2, 2017 at Elk City, Oklahoma at the age of 89 years, 8 months and 22 days.
Donald grew up in the Erick and the surrounding areas. He attended Erick public schools and graduated from high school in 1946. After graduation, he worked for Cecil Crawford in his furniture store until he entered the United States Army in 1951. During his time of service he was deployed to Korea and was a corporal forward observer in the 39th field artillery, 3rd infantry division. Donald, along with 2 other men, were captured during the Korean conflict and later escaped. Even after his discharge in 1953 he remained in the reserves for 3 years. He later met and was married to Joy (Richardson) Brookshire at Erick, Oklahoma on August 29, 1954. Together they made their home in Erick and Amarillo, Texas before moving back in 1969 and he took over his father's cattle operation where he continued until 2007 when he retired. Donald enjoyed working with cattle and watching football.Wednesday, October 04,
