Minnie Marie Silk was born April 26, 1935 in Elk City, Oklahoma to Opal
Irene and Charles M. Hopkins. She passed away April 18, 2016 at Sayre,
Oklahoma at the age of 80 years, 11 months and 22 days.
Minnie Marie grew up in the Carter, Oklahoma community and graduated in 1953
having been the first female to have a grand champion steer at the OKC
Spring Livestock show selling it to the highest bidder for $3300.00. The
same day as her graduation, she was married to Jake Donald Silk at Carter,
Oklahoma. After their marriage Jake was drafted into the United States Army
and Minnie Marie remained in western Oklahoma and attended Southwestern
Oklahoma State University for a semester before going to Missouri where she
stayed with Jake. After Jake's discharge in 1955 they moved to Perkins,
Oklahoma and later to the family farm in between Sayre and Carter. Together
Minnie Marie and Jake farmed, ranched and raised their family. Minnie Marie
enjoyed cooking and fixing Sunday dinners every week and especially her
delicious biscuits, gardening and even preparing her vegetables before
delivering to her friends, bird watching and spending time with her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Bennie Petterman and
one daughter-in-law, Sheila Silk.
She is survived by her husband, Jake, of the home; 3 sons, Jake Silk II,
Sayre, OK, Charles Bennie Silk and wife, Susanne, Sayre, OK and David Brian
Silk and wife, Sandra, Delhi, OK; 6 grandchildren, Jake Silk III and wife,
Char, Sayre, OK, Jeremy Silk and wife, Makala, Blanchard, OK, Ashley Waddell
and husband, Ryan, Piedmont, OK, Carson Silk and wife, Deana, Yukon, OK,
Bandy Silk and wife, Amy, Delhi, OK and Brianne Vaught and husband, Colter,
Delhi, OK; 16 great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and
friends.
