Barbara Susan "Sue" Shafer was born February 7, 1963 in Sayre,
Oklahoma to Helen Ruth and Lee Shafer. She passed away November 30, 2014 at
Sayre, Oklahoma at the age of 51 years, 9 months and 23 days.
Sue lived in Sayre until moving with her family to Amarillo, Texas in 1969.
She worked at Western Merchandising for several years and later returned to
Sayre in 1999 to make her home. Sue worked at Hensley Nursing Home and Grand
Place Nursing Home for a time. She also worked for her stepfather,
Clarence Wing, building fence and that gave her the opportunity to spend
time outdoors, which was one of her favorite things. Sue seemed tough on the
exterior but to those who really knew her, she was a soft an caring person.
She was very protective of her family, whom she loved very much. They will
always remember her joke telling and will greatly miss her laugh.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents,
Jack and Bessie Jones, her mother and father, Helen and Clarence Wing, and a
sister-in-law, Glenda Shafer.
She is survived by her brothers and sisters,
Patricia Hamilton and husband, Ken, Amarillo, TX, Charles Shafer, Sayre, OK,
Laura Weatherstine and husband, Rick, Sayre, OK, Jeanette Shafer, Amarillo,
TX and Jack Shafer and wife, Judy, Amarillo, TX; Partner in life, Jeanene
Martin, Sayre, OK; a step brother, David Wing, Sayre, OK; her nieces,
Tillany Hamilton, Karly Shafer, Maranda Ovalle and Cassidy Shafer, her
nephews, Michael Hamilton, Joshua Parker, A. J. Ovalle, Jake Shafer; her
great nieces, Ashley, Riley, Makayla, Penny, and Jean, Madilyn and Kaisyn;
aunts and uncles, Lois Estes, Carol Kenny, Brenda Hodges, Gary Jones, Wayne
Jones and Eddie Jones and a host of cousins, second cousins, other family
members and friends.
Services will be held Friday, December 5, 2014 at 2:00 pm at Rose Chapel officiated by Rev. Juanice Parkhurst. Burial will be at Sayre-Doxey Cemetery under the direction of Rose Chapel Funeral Service of Sayre. Condolences can be made online at www.whineryfs.com
