Herschal grew up in the Delhi community and moved with his family to Guthrie, Oklahoma in 1952. In 1962, he returned to the Sayre community where he began working at the DX Service Station. It was at the service station where he met and eventually married Opal Janie (Swaner) McBane at Wheeler, Texas on January 1, 1963. After their marriage, Herschal and Janie they made their home in Sayre and he began working at the Brickell Locker Plant until 1967 when he began his career in law enforcement. Herschal worked for the DOC, Sayre Police Department and was also a volunteer on the Sayre Fire Department and continued until 2011, when he retired. After his retirement, he was very instrumental in the development of the baseball fields behind the administration building and the development of the men’s and women’s softball league at the park. Herschal loved children and was a part of the Kiwanis baseball and softball league in Sayre. He enjoyed golfing and in the last year of his life was able to work at the golf course with his brother as a supervisor to the inmates and a greens keeper. Herschal's passion in life was fishing, his family and enjoyed traveling and spending time with them.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 sisters, Rosalee Chandler, Myrl Louise Watson and Jaunita Pearl Howard, 1 brother, Archie Carrol McBane.
He is survived by his wife, Janie, of the home; daughter, Elisha Mikles, Sayre, OK; son, Douglas G. McBane and wife, Brandy, Elk City, OK; 6 grandchildren, Meagan Mikles, Jordan Langley, Brandon Nelson-McBane, Jeremy Mikles and wife, Nichole, Samuel Williams and James Garrett McBane, 1 great granddaughter, Lillian Mikles, 1 sister, Jewel Pope and husband, Ben, Sayre, OK; 5 brothers, Loyd McBane and wife, Ginger, Melvin Gail McBane and wife, Jayne, Wesley McBane and wife, Judy, Wilford McBane and wife, Raylene and Weltha McBane and wife, Linda, 4 sisters-in-law, Kay McManus, Glenna Swaner, Phylena Parker and husband, Harvey and Jodie Swaner as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Services will be held Tuesday; May 12, 2015 at 2:00 pm at Sayre First Baptist Church officiated by Kendell Hamilton. Burial will be at Sayre-Doxey Cemetery under the direction of Rose Chapel Funeral Service. Condolences can be made online at www.whineryfs.com
