Edna Dawson was born January 4, 1924 in Snow, Oklahoma to Nancy and Thomas
Hardy. She passed away February 18, 2013 at Sayre, Oklahoma at the age of 89
years, 1 month and 14 days.
Edna was born and grew up in Snow, Oklahoma and attended the Wheelock Choctaw
Indian Academy. She later moved to Wichita, Kansas and lived with her aunt. Edna
was a "Rosie the Riveter" and worked at the Boeing Aircraft Factory assembling
bombers. While living in Wichita, she began nursing school but had to return to
Oklahoma to care for her mother. She resumed her nurses' training at Talihina
Indian Hospital. While riding the bus to and from work she became acquainted
with the driver, Bert Dawson. Their relationship blossomed and they were married
at McAlester, Oklahoma on September 1, 1946. In 1947, they moved to Borger,
Texas where they remained until 1964 when they moved to Sayre to make their
home. Edna was employed at Grand Place Nursing Home for many years until
retiring in 1986. She loved to be outdoors working in her garden. She also
enjoyed sewing, working jigsaw puzzles and was an avid fan of the Atlanta
Braves. Edna was a faithful member of the Sayre First Baptist Church and served
on many committees but was best known for her homemade bread that she provided
for funeral dinners and welcome baskets.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a son, L. C. Dawson, a
son-in-law, Gary Osborne, an infant sister, 2 sisters and a brother.
She was survived by her 3 daughters, Evadith Ahmad & husband, Ahmad, Oklahoma
City, OK, Evelyn Osborne, Elk City, OK, Nancy Reed and husband, Earl, Sayre, OK;
7 grandchildren, Kate Moss & husband, Dennis, North Fork, VA, Rhonda Coffman,
Oklahoma City, OK, Tom Osborne, Elk City, OK, Sarah King and husband, Patrick,
Weatherford, OK, Tim Osborne, Elk City, OK, Josh Reed, Sallisaw, OK, Shaddy
Ahmad & wife, Michaela, Oklahoma City, OK; 7 great grandchildren, Jada Galley,
Isaac, Joseph and Lydia King, Ty, Xavier and Isaiah Ahmad; 4 sisters, Eleanor
Caldwell, Louise Smith and husband, Phil, Jean King and husband, Danny and a
host of other relatives and friends.
Services will be held February 22, 2013 at 1:30 pm at Sayre First Baptist Church
officiated by Bro. Tom Cooksey.
Burial will be at Sayre-Doxey Cemetery under the direction of Rose Chapel
Funeral Service.
