Delbert Carnahan was born February 11, 1924 on the family
farm northwest of Sayre, Oklahoma to Margaret Selma (Kiener) and Dewey Wilbert
Carnahan. He passed away December 24, 2015 at Elk City, Oklahoma at the age of
91 years, 10 months and 13 days.
Delbert grew up on the family farm where he stayed his entire life and graduated
from New Liberty High School in 1942. He joined the National Guard in 1949 at
Elk city and was deployed to Korea on March 30, 1951 in C Company 179th Infantry
45th Division. He was honorably discharged May 4, 1952. Delbert was married to
Marjorie Story on December 5, 1952 in Erick, Oklahoma. They made their home on
the family farm and in 1956 graduated from Sayre Jr. College. Delbert worked at
the City National Bank at Sayre from 1967 until his retirement in 1987. He
attended New Liberty Church, was a member of Kiwanis, the American Legion and
served on the Northfork REC board from 1970 thru 1985 and also enjoyed working
with his machinery, playing baseball as a young man, reading, fishing and
hunting.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Selma and Wilbert Carnahan and various
aunts, uncles and cousins.
He is survived by his wife, Marjorie, of the home; 3 children, Nancy Griffis and
husband, Ted, Clarksville, TX, Mike Carnahan and wife, Tracy, Sayre, OK and
Laura Mohr and husband, Jeff, Sayre, OK; 8 grandchildren, Sara Russell and
husband, Dusten, Mt. Pleasant, TX, Katy Griffis and fiancé, Justin Pitts, Big
Spring, TX, Josh Carnahan and wife, Maureen, Sayre, OK, Cody Carnahan, Sayre,
OK, Tyler Carnahan, Sayre, OK, Zac Carnahan, Sayre, OK, Matt Mohr and wife,
Krista, Yukon, OK and Joe Mohr, Washington D.C.; 4 great grandchildren, Tayler
Russell, Jack Carnahan, Mara Carnahan, Garin Mohr and a host of other relatives
and friends.
