Graveside services for Mary Alice Sanders of the Falconhead Community in Burneyville, OK will be held at 1:30 p.m., Thursday, December 3, 2020, in the Delhi Cemetery, Delhi, OK, with Bill Dowdell officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home & Cremation Services of Marietta, OK.

Alice was born in Sayre, OK, on December 12, 1932, to Edna Mae (Wolfe) and William Robert Brown. She peacefully passed away at the age of 87 on November 21, 2020, in the Lake Country Nursing Center in Marietta with her beloved husband, Jim Sanders, by her side.

Mary Alice was a graduate of Delhi High School with the Class of 1950. She was a great basketball player and the Valedictorian of her class. Mary Alice continued her education at Oklahoma State University and received her degree from Central State University in Edmond, OK. She married the love of her life, James A. "Jim" Sanders (who she had known since first grade) on December 23, 1952. They moved to Havre de Grace, MD where Jim was stationed in the Navy. Mary Alice and Jim lived in several places before moving to Midland, TX in 1972. She taught at Midland High School for 19 years before retiring in 1991.

Mary Alice and Jim made their home in the Falconhead community on Fairway Drive for the past dozen or so years. Mary Alice enjoyed golf and was often joined on the course by her sister, Maxine Hartman, who also resided there with her husband, the late Roy Hartman. Later the sisters were joined by a brother, Dr. Bob Brown (and wife Mary) until Bob's death in 2018. All three Brown siblings had been career educators.

Mary Alice spent her retirement years baking cookies with her granddaughter, sewing beautiful clothes, playing rummikub with her friends, and putting in many rounds of golf at Burneyville.

Mary Alice is survived by her husband, Jim Sanders of the home; her son, Greg Sanders and wife Deborah of Dallas, TX; daughter, Janis Dickeson and husband Ken of Midland; granddaughter, Dawn Dickeson-McNair and husband Martin of Fort Worth, TX; grandson, Derek Dickeson of Midland; great-grandson, Morgan McNair of Fort Worth; sister, Maxine Hartman of Rowlett, TX; brother, Larry Brown of Woodward, OK; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Edna and W.R. Brown, and a brother, Bob Brown.

The family suggests memorial donations to be made to Alzheimer's Association or to Bynum School in Midland.

Time for viewing will be Wednesday from 12:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
