She attended and graduated from Delhi schools and was an outstanding basketball player. Her team all had nicknames, and she picked up the nickname “Cherry.”  She married John Edward Potts on December 7, 1940, at Borger, Texas. She met John Ed when he came to Delhi to visit his sister who ran the Delhi store.  They lived in Borger until 1950 when they moved to Modesto, California. During the time John Ed was in the navy, Lola Mae was a “Rosie the Riveter,” working in defense plants. At one time she worked as a gas station attendant and was actually robbed while on the job.  She had a long tenure as checker for Humpty Dumpty stores. In 1975 she and John Ed moved back to Sayre where they were very active in the First Baptist Church. John Ed was a deacon; and as a deacon’s wife, Lola Mae, was right beside her husband supporting him in all his ministry—visiting the sick, holding services and singing in hospitals and nursing homes, helping in numerous ways. Around her home on East Benton, she was a conscientious neighbor and enjoyed all the neighborhood children. If she was your friend, she WAS your friend.  Lola Mae faithfully served her Lord and church as Sunday school class secretary for many years along with visiting, making her famous carrot cake for funerals meals and crocheting/knitting things that could be given to help the needy or as gifts.  Lola Mae loved her church; and even after having to move to the nursing home, she was very determined that her tithe would get to her church on the first Sunday of each month.  Many things could be said about Lola Mae, but a summary would be:  A Christian life well lived. 

She is preceded in death by her parents, and her husband of almost 57 years, and her “adopted” daughter: Lou Ann Largent.

Lola Mae is the last of 11 children: 5 boys and 6 girls, one sister passing at 18 months. 

She leaves numerous adored and loved nephews and nieces with their families scattered across the nation, along with her “adopted”  son, Ronald Largent of Sayre.

Lola Mae was always very adamant about repaying you or sending a thank-you card for any gift or kindness she received.  She would want to say thank you to all those who helped her stay in her home as long as she did, to everyone who helped in these last few years, and the nurses and staff at Hensley’s. “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.”  2 Timothy 4:7

Funeral Services will be held  10:00 AM, Wednesday, February 26, 2020 at First Baptist Church, Sayre with Pastor Peter Parker officiating. 

Burial will be at Delhi Cemetery. 

Visitation will be held Tuesday, February 25, 2020 from 9:00 AM ~ 8:00 PM at Rose Chapel, Sayre.
