Vanessa Gay Thompson was born October 13, 1947 in Sayre, Oklahoma to
Isabelle and Ira John Dedmon. She passed away August 27, 2015 at Elk
City, Oklahoma at the age of 67 years, 10 months and 14 days.
 
Vanessa grew up and attended schools in Sayre, Oklahoma. Her junior
year in high school, she married Jack Gene Thompson at Sayre, Oklahoma
on January 13, 1964. After their marriage she returned to school
graduating in 1965. Vanessa and Jack moved to Mooreland, Oklahoma where
she was a telephone operator for Southwestern Bell. In 1966 they moved
to Anadarko, Oklahoma where Jack worked for Western Farmers Electric and
Vanessa worked for the chamber of commerce and also for the local John
Deere dealership. Vanessa and Jack later moved to Denver, Colorado in
1972 where she was a secretary at Centennial Race Track. In 1978 they
moved to Sayre, Oklahoma where together they opened and operated
Electri-Serve and also owned C&G convenience store.
 
Vanessa was active in the Sayre community, served with the Chamber of
Commerce and was on the Miss Sayre Pageant board serving for several
years and acting as the director. She traveled all over the state
serving as a judge for many pageants for the Miss Oklahoma Pageant
System. In 1995, she was awarded the Sayre Journal Woman of the Year for
her extensive work in the community. She also enjoyed writing, reading,
crocheting, researching family genealogy and spending time with her
family.
 
She was preceded in death by her parents and one son, Chris Thompson.
 
She is survived by her husband, Jack, of the home; son, John Thompson
and wife, Sherry, Elk City, OK; daughter, Lori Park Daubenspeck, Elk
City, OK; 5 grandchildren, Jacklyn Ellis and husband, James, Altus, OK,
Deedra Childress and husband, Brad, Big Spring, TX, Abby Thompson,
Sayre, OK, Steele Cobb, Elk City, OK and Vanessa Cobb, Elk City, OK; 3
great grandchildren, Keirsten McIntyre, Oktober Childress and Xander
Ellis; 2 sisters, Teresa Back and husband, Jim, Meadow, TX and Johnita
McCorkle and husband, Scott, Yukon, OK and a host of other relatives and
friends.
