The death of Mrs. Mary E. Williams, wife of J. D. Williams, living seven miles southwest of Grimes cast a gloom over our entire neighborhood.
She passed to her Heavenly Home on February 1, 1905 after a short illness of five hours. Her husband had gone for the doctor but death claimed her before his return.
A little over a year ago Mr. and Mrs. Williams came to Grimes Sunday school for the first time. They were accompanied by four sweet children ranging in ages from five to thirteen years. Soon afterward the children were taken sick with diphtheria and in the space of a few weeks all had passed away and the next time the parents came to our church services they were alone.
Mrs. Williams was converted at the age of sixteen and at the time of her death was a member of the M.E. Church and Epworth League of Grimes.
She was of a very modest disposition, kind and loving to all and her life reflected the pure holy character of the dear Savior whom she so devotedly served.
She loved her neighbors and was ever ready to help them in any way she could and in return they all loved her devotedly and no one had aught to say against her.
She took great comfort in reading the Bible and the last Sunday she spent on earth she was reading the blessed Book with more than usual interest and her conversation that day was much on the sweet promises contained therein.
Funeral services were held Friday afternoon by Rev. M. E. Diehl, who spoke tender and appropriate words.
The remains of the sainted wife and mother were taken to the Buffalo Cemetery near the Buffalo school house where the interment took place besides the graves of her little ones, to await the glorious resurrection from the dead. The day was bitterly cold, and snow and ice were on everything.
A sister, Miss Hanna of Oklahoma City attended the services.
Great sympathy is expressed for the bereaved ones. May the Heavenly Father be with them and comfort them until all are reunited in Heaven.
Sleep on, beloved sleep, and take thy rest, Lay down thy head upon thy Savior's breast, We love thee well, but Jesus loved thee best, Good Night! Good Night! Good Night! - - Alice Blackburn
