George M. Stewart, Sr. was born May 18, 1942 in Mayfield, Oklahoma to Velma Bernice and Jesse Lee Stewart. He passed away November 30, 2014 at Sayre, Oklahoma at the age of 72 years, 6 months and 12 days.

As a child, George moved with his family to Grimes, OK and then Plentywood, Montana. The family returned to Oklahoma in 1957 and made their home in Sayre and he remained there until his death. He had 7 children between 1964 and 1972, 5 girls and 2 boys. He lived at 412 W. Pine St. in Sayre as a single father, raising 2 of the 7 children. Once the 2 children were raised and moved on with their lives he met Betty (Reed) Tillman and they married at Wheeler, Texas on February 12, 1990 and they continued to make their home in Sayre. George worked for Puckett's Warehouse and the City of Sayre before beginning his own company, Triple SSS Mobile Home Movers. George loved attending auctions where he found antiques and other items and then reselling them. This passion allowed him to operate his own weekly auction and he later opened a second hand store, The Peddler's Corner, which he operated until 2005. George loved to hunt, fish and camp but always looked forward to cooking out with his family and friends. He was an avid listener of Tradio on KECO. His voice was well known by the staff and other listeners and they looked forward to his daily calls.

He was preceded in death by his father, Jesse Lee Stewart and a sister, Ruby Driver.

He is survived by his wife, Betty, of the home; 7 children, Wayna Mehlhaff and husband, Charlie, Lodi, CA, Trela Waters, Marion, IN, George Stewart, Jr. and wife, Joanne, Sayre, OK, Trena Smith and husband, Chad, Highwood, MT, Dean Stewart, Amarillo, TX, Ledel Amaral, Calvin, OK, and Jessica May and husband, Matt, Vidalia, GA; 22 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, his mother, Velma Stewart, Sayre, OK; his sisters, Louise Jernigan, Sayre, OK and Brenda Safranca and husband, John, Sayre, OK and a host of relatives and friends.
