Almetia Jenkins was born June 17, 1934 in Wheeler, Texas to Frieda and Lawrence Forrest. She passed away February 1, 2017 in Denison, Texas at the age of 82 years 7 months and 14 days.
She married Hansford Milton Jenkins on November. 28, 1953 at Lone Oak Baptist Church between Sweetwater and Sayre, Oklahoma. They spent 63 years together, raising a family, working and traveling. They lived in Texas, Wyoming, Michigan and Oklahoma, moving to Buncombe Creek when Hansford retired from Shell Oil Company. While living in Gaylord, Mich. in the 1970s, Almetia worked for Glen's Markets.
Family meant everything to Almetia. A devoted mother, she was her three children's biggest fan, and her proud voice was easily detected in the stands at their sporting and school events. In later years she was happiest when surrounded by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was a good cook, renowned for her chocolate pie and banana pudding. She enjoyed fishing and held the family record for catching the biggest fish. She loved camping and was always ready for a road trip, whether by RV, motorcycle or car. Almetia also loved to watch western movies.
Almetia was known for her frankness, and those who knew and loved her always knew where they stood with her. She did not mince words. She knew her Bible, too.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister and a brother.
Besides her husband Hansford (Stubby), she is survived by her children, Audie Jenkins of Sweetwater, Okla., Stacie Jenkins of Kingston, Okla., and Kyle (Renee) Jenkins of Tuttle, Okla.; 18 adoring grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
