Roy Oliver Holland was born November 18, 1933 in Delhi,
Oklahoma to Lawrence B. and Amie Jane (Davis) Holland. He passed away August
23, 2016 at his home near Sweetwater, Oklahoma at the age of 82 years, 9
months and 5 days.
Roy lived in Delhi until he was in the 10th grade when the family moved
south of Sweetwater. He graduated from Sweetwater High School and went on to
serve on the School Board for many years. He was married to Ruth Jane
Johnson at Sayre, OK on November 22, 1952 and they made their home in the
Sweetwater community where they raised their 3 sons. Roy drove a rock truck
from Gotebo to Burns Flat to help in the construction of the airport runway
and then drove a milk truck. He later managed the Sweetwater Gin as well as
farmed, ranched and also operated the H4 Dairy for 35 years. Roy was active
in the community and served on the Northfork REC Board for several years. He
enjoyed rodeo and raising and breeding Quarterhorse stock.
Roy was a longtime member of the Sweetwater Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, a son, Roy Ken Holland, 3
brothers, L. G., H. K. and Tom, and 2 sisters, Carrie and Velma Ruth.
Roy is survived by his 2 sons, Dean Holland and wife, Linda, of Sweetwater,
OK and Eddie Holland and wife, Wendi, of Elk City, OK; 15 grandchildren, 20
great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
