Olen Coffey

Olen Coffey was born May 9, 1915 at Sweetwater, Oklahoma to Daisy Minor and John Wesley Coffey and passed away August 25, 1997 in the Mercy Health Center at the age of 82 years, 3 months and 16 days.

Olen graduated from Erick High School and was offered a scholarship from Southwestern State College but felt he was needed on the farm to work with his parents.

He married Lucille Ellen Price on May 9, 1937 in Sweetwater, Oklahoma.

They farmed in the Sweetwater community for a number of years until moving to Midwest City in the early 1960's where he worked at Tinker Air Force Base.

After his retirement they moved to Weatherford to make their home.

For the past ten years Olen was legally blind but never complained and was proud to maintain his independence.

He was a member of the Buffalo Baptist Church and was a devoted church member and served as the Sunday School Superintendent while teaching the young men's Bible School class and has always had a strong belief in God.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter Rose Dorsey; two brothers and three sisters.

He is survived by Lucille B. Coffey, Weatherford, Oklahoma; two daughters, Linda Grimes, Weatherford, Oklahoma; and Laura Willia, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; one brother. O. W.; one sister, Glayds McCarty, Woodland Hills, Georgia; four grandchildren, Jeff Dorsey, Ada, Oklahoma; Greg Dorsey, London, England; Debbie Self, Irving, Texas; and Seth Koper, Weatherford, Oklahoma; five great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Services were at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 27, 1997 at the Buffalo Baptist Church officiated by Larry Parvin.

Interment was in the Buffalo Cemetery under the direction of Rose Chapel Funeral Service.
