Beaver County, Oklahoma

Zelma Cemetery

Location: S12-T4-R27

The Zelma Cemetery is located about three miles west of Gate. Turn south at the small sign, follow the blacktop 1½ mile. The cemetery is on the east side of the road, at the end of the paving. William Starkey donated this plot of ground for the burial of his granddaughter June 6, 1906. The post office and store near here were named Zelma, therefore, this became known as the Zelma Cemetery. In about 1944 Mr. & Mrs. Will Davidson donated an adjoining plot of land to the cemetery. Although this was one of the earlier cemeteries, it had never had a deed on record. The cemetery plot was put on record in the County Courthouse and a deed received October 29, 1943. This is a neat well-kept cemetery originally associated with the nearby Friends Church, which closed in 1928.
