Columbus Treat

February 19, 1896 ~ Apr 06, 1980

Laverne – Funeral services for Columbus L. Treat, 84, will be at 2 PM Wednesday in the Apostolic Faith Church with the Rev. M. D. Methvin and the Rev. Earl Malone officiating.

Treat will be buried in the Poplar Grove Cemetery, with military graveside rites conducted by the American Legion post No. 273, of which he was an active member. Seeger Funeral Home of Laverne is in charge of arrangements.

Treat died Sunday evening while visiting a daughter in Pampa, Texas. He was born February 19, 1896, at Landis, Arkansas, and was orphaned before he was eight years old. He came to Oklahoma with an uncle. The family lived at Elk City before moving to Beaver County in 1917.

Treat enlisted in the U.S. Army the following year, serving in World War I. He and Hazel Shepherd were married at Beaver December 23, 1927. They lived on his farm until moving to Laverne in 1962. Treat was a member of the Fairview Methodist Church and attended the Apostolic Faith Church after moving to Laverne.

In addition to his wife Hazel, he is survived by a son, Marvin (Bud) Treat of Laverne; two daughters, Thelma Overton of Beaver and Lavena Terrill, Pampa; a sister, Spicie Dickenson of Laverne; 10 grandchildren; four step – grandchildren; three great – grandchildren and to step – great – grandchildren.
