Bobby Dean Mann of Vici, Oklahoma, departed this life on June 29, 2014 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He was 78 years of age.
Bob was born September 30, 1935 in Homestead, Oklahoma. His parents moved to Beaver, Oklahoma when he was very young, and he grew up and lived the greater part of his adult life in Beaver. His life was one of hard work and physical activity, starting in his boyhood when he helped his parents run their dairy farm, milking cows twice a day, along with his mother and father. As an adult, he worked primarily with heavy equipment, doing dirt work in the oil fields and roads of northwest Oklahoma. He was proud of his skills, and often talked about doing the grading and preparation for the Beaver High School football field.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Forrest and Wilda (Davidson) Mann; his brother Billy Mann and sister Norma Mann Leatherman; and his daughter, Debra Mann Patterson. He is survived by his brother and sister-in-law Donald and Judy Mann of Vici; Son and daughter-in-law Bobby and Paula Mann of Enid, and daughter and son-in-law Ladonna and Gary Giessmann of Oklahoma City; granddaughters Katrina Mann, Kristin Sackett, and Natalie York; grandsons Matt Mann and Ryan Patterson; Nieces Connie, Vickie, Marquita, Stephanie and Kristal, nephews K.C., Travis and Forrest; and numerous great-grandchildren and great-nieces and great-nephews.
Having been raised in hard times, Bob had a work ethic of amazing proportions which he bestowed on his children. He had a marvelous dry sense of humor, and was the source of wonderful sayings that were wise and funny at the same time. A true sportsman, he excelled at hunting, fishing and in breeding and racing greyhounds and horses. He was a good man who leaves a legacy of independence and self-reliance. He will be missed. And as Bob would say, “I'll get off here and quit bothering you.”
Graveside services will be held Saturday, July 5, 2014 at the Overton Cemetery west of Beaver.
