Independence Cemetery

Location: S15-T5-R20

This is a well-kept cemetery 2 miles north and ½ mile west of the town of Turpin on the north side of the road. The people of the community met at various times to decide upon a site for a cemetery. About the year 1906 or 1907 Mr. Wiley Boyland gave three acres of land to be used for this purpose. The first burial there was June 9, 1911. The Independence Church was there first, and in 1927 was moved to Turpin.
update 2021 by: Tracy Pickering
There are several graves with only funeral home markers and the names have come off and a few stones with no readable words. This cemetery has a lot of damage from animals and doesn't look like it has been well cared for.
