Lester Ray Priest

Aug. 15, 1930 ~ June 16, 2009

The funeral for Lester Ray Priest, 78, of Gate, will be 11 a.m. today, June 19, 2009, at Gate United Methodist Church. The Revs. Al Scrifes, Lyle Whitman and Michael Wilcox will officiate. Burial will be in Gate Cemetery. Arrangements are by Myatt Funeral Home, Laverne.

He was born Aug. 15, 1930, on the family farm near Knowles to Henry Olen and Millie Belle Baker Priest and died Tuesday, June 16, 2009, at St. Mary's Regional Medical Center.

He attended Gate schools, graduating from Gate High School in 1948.

He was a farmer and stockman and owner/operator of Priest Motor Service.

He was a member of Gate United Methodist Church and served as fire chief for the Gate Fire Department for more than 20 years.

He married Iris Coral Disney Dec. 1, 1948 in Lipscomb, Texas. She died May 19, 1961. He later married Carol Joan Curtis Nov. 23, 1962, in Gate. She died Aug. 28, 2008.

Surviving are three sons, Larry Priest of Laverne and Kevin Priest and Dallas Priest, both of Gate; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home, Box 909, Laverne, OK 73848, to Gate Fire Department or Gate Cemetery.
