David R. Maurer of Arpelar died peacefully on Monday, March 9 in a local nursing home at the age of 65 years and one month, after a brief battle with cancer.

David was born in Kerrville, TX on February 8, 1944 to Clemens and Pauline Maurer. He married Peggy Patterson on September 3, 1976.

After graduation from Tivy High School in Kerrville, he went to work in the aviation industry, first for Mooney Aircraft in Kerrville, then for General Dynamics in Fort Worth. During this time he enlisted in and served in the U.S. Army Reserves from which he was honorably discharged in 1970.

In 1982 he and Peggy and their family moved to McAlester where he worked as a carpenter for Jim Luker Construction until an accidental injury forced him to retire in 1998.

David was a member of the American Legion. While he enjoyed gardening and fishing his real passion was people. He was known in the community for his radiant smile, his sense of humor and his caring and generous spirit. He was always ready to help someone in need. David was deeply cherished and will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his wife, Peggy of Arpelar, two daughters and sons -in-law, Lisa and Steve Ryan of Sioux City, Iowa; Cinnamon and Gene Casey of Fort Worth, TX, a son, Kris Maples of McAlester; three sisters; Delphine Exman of Fort Worth, TX, Clarice Morse of Arlington, TX, Angela Thompson and husband Larry Vavra of Georgetown, TX; three brothers; Charles Maurer and wife Shirley of Fort Worth, TX, Norman Maurer and wife Judy of Kerrville, TX, Stephen Maurer and wife Donna of Benson, AZ; mother-in-law Bonnie Patterson, and sister-in-law Lindy Blackburn, both of Arlington, TX and sister-in-law Kathy and husband Tim O'Brien of Fair Oaks, CA. He is also survived by twelve grandchildren, one great-grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his Father-in-Law, Junior Patterson; a son Paul Maples and an infant daughter. Pallbearers will be Michael Rose, William Rose, Steve Douglas, Eric Bridgeman, Ben Kennedy and Dale Brown. Honorary Pallbearers are Karl Luker and Joe Bridgeman.

Visitation will be on Thursday March 12 from 6-8pm at Bishop Funeral Home. Funeral services will be on Saturday March 14 at 10am at Bishop Chapel of Memories with Rev. James Crawson officiating. Interment will be at 12:30 pm at Wesley Cemetery south of Pittsburg.
