He started his teaching career in 1960 in Montana. He returned to Oklahoma in 1966 and began building an extensive legacy of Education Administration across southern Oklahoma. He accepted the Superintendent's position at Stonewall in 1977 and after 27 years, he retired in 2004 ending a 44-year career of dedication, service and excellence. Floyd loved the outdoors. He enjoyed boating, and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He served as the Mayor of Phillips for several years after his retirement.

Floyd was a member of the Coalgate Methodist Church.

Above his professional accomplishments was his devotion to his family. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He married Margie Dale Pate, the love of his life, on May 27th, 1960. They shared 65 years of marriage, and he cherished her deeply. Their life together was marked by faithfulness, strength, laughter, and unwavering commitment and loyalty.
